Chapter 5: The Scene

In this chapter something big happens, and Robert and Evalina may find a way to get a long after all</sub>

After the confusing interaction on the rooftop Robert was more than excited for his day out with Evalina. He had fully expected that the following morning, when it was her turn to escort her out, he’d be met with at least a smile. And he was partly right.

She had come running up to him a bright but nervous smile on her face. “There’s a last minute showing of Rock of Ages this afternoon and Taylor really wants to take me, do you think we can reschedule or tomorrow?” she asked.

The question had been soul crushing but she looked so excited her could turn her down. So he said the only thing he could say: “Sure, you go, have fun, and we’ll go to the aquarium tomorrow.”

Evalina had smiled even wider and threw herself on him. Enveloping him in a large hug, Robert was shaking as he wrapped his arms around her. She pulled away before he could get his arms fully around her. “Thank you so much! I’ll bring something back for you, I promise.”

“My shirt size is medium!” he called as she skipped away. He didn’t think she’d bring him anything but at the end of the evening, after a lonely dinner he ate in his hotel room to avoid the three screamers and Kristen, she showed up at his door with a Rock of Ages medium t-shirt. He had never been so happy to receive anything in his life.

The next morning, he practically ran down to the lobby wearing his new t-shirt from her, only to have all those hopes and dreams he had built up during the night dashed upon the ground. Robert sat sulking, the three screamers, clamouring around him talking loudly. He was definitely considering firing his agent at that moment.

Evalina came skipping up to him and he sat up a little straighter. He bolted to his feet once she got close enough shrugging the screamers off like an unneeded blanket. As his smile appeared on his face he could already hear the screamers fading off into the distance. “So are you ready to go?” she asked and his smile instantly faded.

“I’ve just been told I can’t,” he whispered and Evalina frowned too. “We have this workshop today, acting lessons from all of us and then they get to act out a scene with their actor or actress of their choice. Guess who got picked for all three scenes?”

The screamers squealed behind him and Robert felt his jaw twitch. He was damn near in tears he was so frustrated and angry. Evalina shot him a sympathetic look of understanding and then waved it off. “Oh that’s okay, I totally understand,” she said trying to smile. “Hey, if you survive the airheads maybe you and I can go for ice cream?”

Robert perked up immediately. “Oh... yeah... that would be nice!”

“Yeah, and don’t worry, we’ll go the aquarium tomorrow,” she added. She leant forward quickly and kissed his cheek. “Well, good-luck.”

Behind him he heard the shocked gasp of the screamers and he smiled so very happily. That had been the best interaction yet, he couldn’t wait for this day to be over to take her for ice cream.

At the end of the day Robert was in such a bad mood he wasn’t even sure the ice cream date could save him. The screamers had all demanded a kiss scene and had been majorly depressed when he stopped just short of the actual kiss. What he hadn’t known was that there would be a filming of the scene once it had been rehearsed, and each girl got to take the scene home when they were done. Because he needed more stress in his life.

He had been about to get out of his Edward costume and make-up when the door open and shut. Robert bristled immediately. “For the last time, I don’t care how your hair looked we are not doing a second take,” he snapped.

“Whoa! I just brought you ice cream,” she said. Robert turned around and found Evalina behind him, two cups of ice cream in her hand. She smiled warmly at him. “I tricked Kristen into telling me your favourite flavour.”

Robert took the ice cream from her, his smile appearing on his face. She smiled up, putting a hand up to his ridiculously spiked hair and she giggled. “You know, I was hoping that you wouldn’t mind, cause I was thinking that... you know... it’d be cool to have one of these videos,” she said evasively an attractive blush on her cheeks.

Robert pointed to the camera set up across the room. “Oh? You wanted a movie?” he wondered. Evalina nodded eagerly. “You’re lucky I know how to work it.”

“Oh? Picked up some directing skills huh?” she asked playfully.

Robert chuckled warmly and went to pick up the scripts. “So what scene do you want to do?”

Evalina shrugged. “I don’t know, a fun one?”

“Okay, well, how about the first kiss scene from the movie,” Robert offered, he looked up from the pages and saw a horrified and surprised look on her face. “No, no, not like that, it’s the scene everyone else picked so we’ve got the set for it and I’ve got the lines memorized again so it’ll just be easier.”

Evalina nodded in understanding. “I wondered why a bed was in here,” she said. “Well, if it’s easier for you, let’s do that one.”

Robert took the pages and handed them to Evalina who smiled warmly at him. “so, we’ll practice first, then do it on camera. Don’t worry, I’ll stop right before the kiss. I promise.”

Evalina laughed. “Okay good, less pressure for me.” And then jumped onto the bed and picked up the fake phone.

She shot him a sultry look before glancing away from him. Robert sat on the edge of the bed and when she glanced back he saw mock horror on her face and was surprised, she was an actress too. “Oh my god! Mom... I’m going to have to call you back!” she said quickly. It wasn’t the right line but Robert couldn’t have cared less.

She tossed the prop phone haphazardly, it bounced off the bed and onto the floor with a loud clatter, she was grinning foolishly and so was he. She slid across the bed to him. “How did you get in here?” she asked in a silken sultry voice, she was on her knees and leaning forward all suggestively, all while placing the script in his lap so she could still read it.

Robert couldn’t hold back his chuckles. “The window.”

“Creepy,” Evalina breathed out before flipping her hair and saying; “I mean:  Do you... uh... do that a lot?”

Robert bit back his laughter and tried to shrug casually. “Well.. just the past couple of months.”

“Hella creepy!” Evalina cried. “Dude, two words for you: Restraining. Order!”

Robert flat out laughed at her that time and she smacked him. “Hey! Stay in character!” she cried and Robert nudged her back. “Okay, okay, sorry go on!”

“I like watching you sleep,” Robert continued. “it’s kind of fascinating to me.”

“Dude, you are certifiable! Get out of my room,” Evalina snapped.

Robert shoved her again. “Seriously, can we film it just like this, please?” he said while Evalina chuckled. “But no seriously, let me finish.”

“Oh god that sounds so wrong!” Evalina cried shaking her head at him and hiding her face in her hands.

“Get your mind out of the gutter, let’s just finish the scene, shoot this and get out of here, I’m starving and I want to treat you to dinner!” Robert ordered.

Evalina took her face out of her hand and smiled warmly. “Okay,” she whispered. “Finish then.”

Robert leant a little closer. “I just want to try something,” he said to her, his tone low as he got in even closer. “Just stay very still.”

He inched even closer and even though Evalina was statue still he added the: “Don’t move” from the script. This was where he would shout that’s it! and move away before the screamer could kiss him. But looking into her beautifully sparkling brown eyes he just couldn’t resist it. Before he could stop himself he had swooped in on her, his hands capturing her face swiftly his lips crashing down on her.

Her yelp of surprise was muffled by his hot mouth and for a moment she was stiff beside him. He had a single hand on her jaw, keeping her close to him and than her arms wrapped around his neck and deepened the kiss. In mere seconds Robert was breathless, his heart hammering in his throat as he pushed her down onto the bed. She was everything he had dreamed of and more.

Suddenly she shoved him off of her and jumped off the bed. Her misty eyed look on her face was gone. She stared at him surprised taking a few steps back. “I... uh... I have to go!” she said quickly and then printed out of the room.

Robert sat up on the bed, his head reeling. What had happened? She couldn’t have not shared that moment with him. She surely had enjoyed it. Okay so maybe he might have enjoyed it more, maybe she hadn’t been left breathless and week at the knees but she must have  at least gotten some pleasure from it.

Sighing Robert ran a hand over his face. What the hell had gone wrong this time? Why wouldn’t anything go right with this girl?
